About the Desire to Stay Home

The desire to stay at home doesn’t come from nowhere. Most likely, you were a calm child while others were running around, and you enjoyed spending time at home. You probably understand the difference between simply being at home and truly enjoying staying at home.

Let's analyze the main reasons why people stay at home and identify your specific case 😏. I counted only three reasons, and here they are:

  1. Feeling of Comfort – I’m a homebody, I like being at home when it's quiet, when no one is watching me or distracting me. This recharges my energy, allows me to create, build, and develop. There are many reasons, and everyone has their own.

  2. Depression and Apathy – a psychological issue, a complex one. Only a specialist can help here, because in such moments, the surrounding world seems dangerous, and staying at home makes a person feel safe.

  3. A Little Rest – a completely normal desire to stay home and do nothing while watching Netflix. It’s absolutely fine if you have worked for a long time and decided to dedicate a week to yourself, doing nothing and mentally recharging. This is good and beneficial, otherwise, you might burn out.

Staying home for a week – normal. For a month – you might be creative or spiritual. But if you fear leaving the house – that’s a problem.

These are the main reasons why the desire to stay at home is not just strong but attractive. If you can go outside but prefer to stay home – everything is fine. Let’s continue and look at the important elements to keep in mind when you spend a long time alone at home.

5 Important Rules When Staying at Home

Staying home for a long time, especially alone, can be a challenge. Here are the key rules to help you spend your time effectively.

  1. Stay Occupied – it's important to know what you’re going to do while at home. It could be watching movies, creative hobbies, or something else—everyone has their own thing. The main point is planning. If you have nothing to do, boredom will consume you quickly. You must stay engaged.

  2. Hygiene – many people neglect themselves when staying at home for a long time. They may stop showering, exercising, etc. I urge you to maintain cleanliness and order as if you had to go outside. You can allow yourself some leniency, but don’t go overboard.

  3. Mental Activities (if staying home for a month or more) – if you haven’t left the house for a month or longer, you need to find activities. You should have a job or an online business. If you do nothing, you will quickly fall behind and become irrelevant. It’s crucial to have something to do, such as work or a personal project. Staying home for a month doing nothing is not allowed! Learn something or create something.

  4. Spiritual Practices – this is an important point for everyone reading this. Staying home without going anywhere is a luxury, but in our time, it’s possible when you work online or simply take a break from your surroundings. Spiritual practices are extremely beneficial when you can stay home and just be alone with yourself in silence.

  5. Don't Fool Around – act as if someone is watching you.

It’s important to understand that if you never go outside and don’t communicate with anyone, you "disconnect" from the outside world. Have you decided to completely disconnect and take a break? – Then turn off your phone too. No one is forcing you to do this. If you want, you can stay connected online, and most likely, that’s exactly what you’re doing. This is just a side note for those who have decided to lock themselves up at home for a week or two :)

Why Don’t You Want to Leave the House?

Maybe you want a better life. Sometimes, you don’t feel like doing anything, even going outside, simply because you haven’t figured yourself out yet. You want more from life than just riding the bus or subway. You don’t have clear goals yet. If your mental health is fine—and it is, because you’re reading this text—then you only need to do two things:

  1. Figure Yourself Out – reflect on your childhood, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and develop them. This approach will prepare you for the future.

  2. Understand What You Want in Life – it sounds clichĂ©, but it’s true. Just set goals for the year. This will help you move faster, and you won’t care whether you’re at home or not.

  3. Achieve and Use Your Time Effectively – not wanting to go outside is great for self-realization and pursuing your ambitions.

And here’s an example for those who think in material terms:

If you feel the difference, you simply need to improve your life by working on yourself. While I haven’t left the house all this time, I created this website. Well, that’s it—I’m going outside for a walk 🙂.
